Wessex International Medics in Trauma & Orthopaedics (WIMTO)

This society/group shall be known as “Wessex International Medics in Trauma & Orthopaedics”, hereinafter referred to as the “WIMTO”.

DECLARATION OF AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The objectives shall be to:

  1. Promote interest in medical research, its execution and dissemination amongst medical students.
  2. Associate with or to enter into arrangement with other societies, bodies and authorities in order to further the cause of the society. 
  3. Promote collaboration of its members in achieving the objectives of the society.

MEMBERSHIP

The following membership categories will be available:

  1. Permanent Membership: Members with valid contract of employment with University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) – in Trauma & Orthopaedics Department would have a membership if they are international medical graduates. 
  2. Regular Membership: Annual renewal for all other based on their annual research activities / output subject to the decision of the WIMTO Executive Council.
  3. Associate Membership: Members recruited based on recommendations of regular members and / or   other office bearers of the WIMTO.

After leaving UHD – Permanent members of the society can avail the option of becoming a member of the advisory board subject to approval of the Patron / Chief Patron. The advisory board shall give assistance and mentorship to the new individuals that join UHD in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY

  1. Meetings

    The executive committee meeting: Shall take place monthly. A Grand General Meeting of the Society shall be held within three (3) months of the end of each tenure. The business of the Grand General Body Meeting shall include:

    • Presentation and adoption of the Quarterly Report presented by the General Secretary.
    • Laying out the plans and foundation for future activities of the next session of new Executive Committee of the Society.

    Proper minutes shall be kept of the proceedings of all General Body Meetings, and a record of the attendances at each meeting. The minutes shall be signed by the President of the Society, and shall be available for inspection or copying by any member on two (2) days’ notice to the General Secretary.

  2. Workshops

    Permanent members shall hold Capacity Building Workshops on Research Methodology, Biostatistics and Medical Writing for the other members of the society and for other organizations, if needed. Workshops shall be paid activities on no-profit no-loss basis.

  3. Conferences

    The topics would be from areas of medical research, medical education and other topics / disciplines of interest to medical students.

  4. Journal Club

    Members are also encouraged to become part of the journal club, monthly preparing a critical appraisal of an original research article – pertinent to Trauma & Orthopaedics –  

  5. Teaching Session
Members are also encouraged to become part of the teaching sessions, fortnightly teaching session by SAS/SpR to the post graduate doctors – this will aid in teaching environment to be built, also help portfolios for appraisals, teaching sessions pertinent to Trauma & Orthopaedics.
